Several mid-range and entry level Nokias coming at IFA

HMD Global is preparing to bring several new smartphones to IFA 2020. There are no flagships among them, instead the company has focused on bolstering its entry level and mid-range offerings.

The Nokia 2.4, code name Wolverine, will be fairly large with its 6.5” screen and 4,500 mAh battery, according to leaked info. Compare that to the 2.3, which has a 6.2” screen and 4,000 mAh battery.

The new model will be powered by a MediaTek Helio P22 chipset as seen in this Geekbench result (octa-core Cortex-A53 at 2.0 GHz and PowerVR GE8320 GPU). The phone runs Android 10 on only 2 GB of RAM. The leakster says that this model will have 16 GB storage and that there will be a 3/32 GB variant as well.

The rear has a 13 MP main camera joined by a 2 MP depth sensor and a flash. The phone will come with a Light Purple color (seen in the tiny image below ) among other colors. The selfie cam will have a 5 MP sensor.

The mid-rangers will be the Nokia 6.3 and 7.3 (whose launch got delayed). Not much is known about them, except that the Nokia 7.3 may use one of the new Snapdragon 700-series chipsets with 5G connectivity (and there will be a 4G model for markets with no 5G coverage). The 6.3 will have to settle for a Snapdragon 670 or 675 chipset.

Both phones will have quad cameras on the back with ZEISS optics. Their predecessors, the Nokia 6.2 and 7.2, were very similar, the main differences being that the 7-series got the better chipset and better image sensors. The .3 generation will likely be the same.

There’s also the “Gamora Plus”, which visited Geekbench. This one is powered by a Unisoc chipset and is probably the TA-1258 model we saw at TENAA yesterday. The chipset is similar to the Helio P22, except it uses eight Cortex-A55 cores (1.6 + 1.2 GHz) and a GE8322 GPU.

The unit from Geekbench had 2 GB of RAM while the one TENAA certified had 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB storage. Both the Gamora Plus and the Wolverine should be running full-blown Android 10, by the way, not Go edition. It’s not clear which model number will be assigned to the Gamora Plus, but it will be closer to 1 than to 9.
