ZTE Axon 20 5G camera sample teased by company exec

ZTE’s next flagship, the Axon 20 5G, is coming on September 1. Before then, the company has already teased the phone’s under display selfie camera, some renders, and on Thursday, the company’s Head of Consumer Experiences and Strategy, Qianhao Lv, has shared a sample image shot with the new Axon phone.

The image captured shows the sun setting over a lake with some clouds and reflections of buildings. Of course, the image was compressed once it was posted online, but we can still tell some of the aspects of this 64MP camera that show promising performance.

The dynamic range is quite good in this photo. Although you can’t see the shadows immediately in front of the buildings, it makes for a nice silhouette against the backdrop. Meanwhile, the colors are pleasant but not too saturated. There’s some noise visible at the top of the image in the blue of the sky, but this could also be due to the compression of the image.

According to Qianhao, the self-portrait abilities (presumably referring to the under-display selfie camera) of the new phone will be great, citing a blind comparison where “the ladies all agreed”.

The new Axon 20 5G will come with a 6.92-inch FHD+ OLED screen with in-display scanner and under display 32MP selfie camera. There’s also up to 12GB of RAM, 256GB of internal storage, and a 4,120 mAh battery with fast charge support. The Axon 20 is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 765G chipset. All else will be revealed on September 1.
