Week 40 in review: Xiaomi Mi 10T line and Pixel 4a 5G and 5 are here

Welcome to another week’s recap, let’s get started. Google’s fall lineup is now official and it’s exactly what the rumors suggestsed. Google unveiled the Pixel 4a 5G and the Pixel 5, both with Snapdragon 765G chipsets, 128GB storage and three cameras – the stalwart 12.2MP main camera, a new 16MP ultrawide and an 8MP selfie camera. The Pixel 5 has a 6.0-inch OLED display, 4,080mAh battery, wireless charging and an IP68 rating for $700/€630/£599, while the Pixel 4a has a 3,885mAh battery and a larger 6.2-inch OLED display for $500/€500/£500. Both will go on sale on October 15.

Xiaomi’s Mi 10T series is also now official. The Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro both have Snapdragon 865 chipsets and 6.67-inch IPS LCDs with 144Hz refresh rate, but have different main cameras – 64MP for the Mi 10T, 108MP for the Mi 10T Pro. The Mi 10T will be available soon starting at €500, while the Mi 10T Pro will start at €600.

The Mi 10T Lite is the first smartphone with a Snapdragon 750G. The display is still a 6.67-inch IPS LCD but of slightly inferior 120Hz refresh rate. The Mi 10T Lite is coming on October 13, starting at €280.

Moving on to Apple’s iPhone 12 stories – it appears that the first batch of iPhone devices will arrive at distributors on October 5. Those will likely be the 5.4-inch iPhone mini and the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Max. Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 12 series on October 13.

The iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max will likely get a bump to 128GB for their base storage, but the iPhone 12 and 12 Max will likely retain the starting 64GB to keep costs down.

The final two big stories of the week are OnePlus related. Company CEO Pete Lau went on Weibo to confirm that there will be no OnePlus 8T Pro this fall, because the OnePlus 8 Pro is still great. He also confirmed that the OnePlus 8T will be announced on October 14.

Speaking of the OnePlus 8T – it will be taller and wider than the OnePlus 8, despite having the same 6.55-inch screen. It will be a faster 120Hz display and the phone’s battery will be larger at 4,500mAh.

Those were the key stories of the week. See you in seven days!
