Week 38 in review: Sony Xperia 5 II is here, new iPads and Apple Watch, LG Wing

This is your week’s recap. There were a few of major announcements this week courtesy of Sony, Apple and LG so let’s get started.

Sony unveiled the Xperia 5 II, which is largely identical to the Xperia 1 II, but has a more compact 6.1-inch 1080p OLED with a fester 120Hz refresh rate. The Xperia 5 II will go on pre-order on September 29 for $950 and will begin shipping all the way on December 4.

Apple held a September event that was focused on the Apple Watch and Apple iPad, instead of the iPhone 12 series. The Watch Series 6 has a brighter always on display, new Blue and Red models and new bands, as well as the Apple Watch SE, which is very similar to the Watch Series 5, but comes at a lower price – $279/$309.

Apple also unveiled a fresh new iPad Air 4 and 8th gen iPad. The Air got smaller bezels, a slightly bigger 10.9-inch display, USB-C port and premiered Apple’s 5nm A14 Bionic chipset, which is set to power the iPhone 12 series. The iPad Air is coming next month, starting at $599.

The entry-level iPad got bumped to a faster A12 Bionic chipset. It’s on sale now for $329.

In the days after the event Apple released the iOS 14, iPadOS 14, tvOS 14 and watchOS 7 to millions of users. iOS 14 finally brought widgets and an app drawer of sorts to the iPhone.

LG unveiled the exciting Wing smartphone, with a swiveling design and effectively two screens. The Wind will come to the US first, but LG spared details on its launch.
