Sony Xperia 5 II disassembled on video, has a graphite sheet to cool the cameras

The Sony Xperia 5 II packs a lot of phone in a relatively small body. The video below shows how to take the phone apart piece by piece, so we can admire the engineering effort that went into the design.

Sony draped graphite sheets over several components to guide heat away from them, even the triple 12 MP camera has a sheet to help keep its sensors cool. There’s a copper tape behind the screen to transfer heat from the mid-frame.

Adhesive is used in some places to hold things down and where necessary to seal the phone and make it water resistant. The mics uses adhesive, but the USB-C port is secured with a rubber gasket instead and is easy to remove. In fact, the whole thing looks fairly easy to disassemble and put back together.

Read our review – or watch the video review – for an in-depth examination of how the phone performs in its fully-assembled state, including testing how it handles sustained load (i.e. how well Sony’s cooling solution works).
