Moto G 5G Plus passes through Geekbench a day before its official announcement

Motorola has an event scheduled for tomorrow, which will focus on the Moto G 5G and Moto G 5G Plus. The latter was just certified by the FCC and it did a test run on Geekbench.

The Moto G 5G Plus seems like it will settle for the Snapdragon 690, Qualcomm’s first 5G chipset in the 600 series (assuming we’ve decoded the “nairo” code name correctly). It’s the most affordable 5G Snapdragon yet, which makes sense given that the G-phones are mid-rangers.

The phone packs 4GB of RAM and ran Android 10 for the test. If it does use the Snapdragon 690, it will support sub-6 GHz 5G thanks to the X51 modem inside the chipset.

Leaskter @evleaks reported that the Moto G 5G (non-plus) will use a Snapdragon 765 chipset (aka “lito”), but that one actually uses older cores (Kryo 475 based on Cortex-A76) compared to the S690 (Kryo 560 based on Cortex-A77). The scores in Geekbench 4 and 5 look pretty much even between the “nairo” and the “lito” chips either way. We’ll find out the chipset selection for certain tomorrow.
